Belangian Village – The Belangian Village Hall hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on hiking management for Mount Kahung and Mount Haur Bunak, organized by Tahura Sultan Adam on Tuesday (July 8, 2025). The event, attended by the tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis) from Belangian Village and Paau Village, aimed to develop a community-based hiking management scheme, adapted from the model used at Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (BTSNP).

Riza Ali, Coordinator of Forestry Extension at Tahura Sultan Adam, emphasized the importance of risk management in hiking. “Aside from hiker safety, we also have to consider ecological impacts. BTSNP and other national parks have already implemented this system,” he said. Currently, Mount Kahung and Mount Haur Bunak, which are increasingly visited—especially by students—do not yet have clear hiking regulations.

Belangian Village Head (Pembakal) Aunul Khoir welcomed the plan to implement hiking management, including the requirement for local guides and waste management. “So far, we’ve required hikers to bring their trash back down. But we need more comprehensive regulations,” he said. Hekmi Wildani, a Pokdarwis member who joined the benchmarking visit to BTSNP, shared his experience of seeing the benefits of managed hiking, such as improving residents’ economy and preserving the environment.

This FGD marks the first step in drafting a sustainable hiking management scheme for Tahura Sultan Adam. The regulations are planned to be implemented gradually, involving all stakeholders, including the local community.
